GREEN  ROOFS & WALLS

We offer structural analysis and design of green roofs and walls on both old and new buildings.

Not only do they reduce and cool stormwater runoff, green roofs filter pollutants and increase the longevity of the roof while reducing heating and cooling costs.

Realtors have found the increased usable space and aesthetic aspects of green roofs help increase the value of a property significantly.

Removes pollutants carried by urban stormwater runoff through infiltration absorption and evapotranspiration, creating a dynamic and diverse ecosystem.

Often utilized to meet stormwater management requirements, if done well, these facilities have positive social and economic outcomes as well.

Whether in an existing urban environment or new development we analyze each area to find the best combination of stormwater management facilities to enhance environmental, social and economic outcomes.

INFILTRATION BEDS & PLANTERS

Infiltration beds can be designed as subsurface basins under impervious areas or as aesthetically pleasing planting beds designed to capture drainage from impervious areas.
Our experience with a multitude of applications allows us to design the series of stormwater management facilities best suited to the site.

MULTIMODAL TRANSPORTATION SYSTEMS- COMPLETE STREETS

Many of our existing streets are designed with the geometrics of a high speed interstate. Reducing lane width while keeping parking in place allow for the installation of bike lanes and wider pedestrian areas that may include plazas, restaurant seating and green infrastructure.

We analyze existing transportation systems to ensure vital areas within an urban setting are utilized to the greatest extent possible.

STREETSCAPES

Park systems, multimodal transportation, entertainment venues, schools, housing and shops are all a vital part of our streetscapes. When green infrastructure is installed and streets enhanced, it has a quantifiably positive effect on our quality of life, health and safety.

When designing street systems, we consider connectivity and placement of focal areas to enhance the vitality of the neighborhoods and retail areas they connect.

Porous Pavement

When utilized in colder climates, porous pavement reduces freeze thaw, the need for salt, increasing pavement longevity while recharging our groundwater supply. Not all areas such as roads with heavy truck traffic are suited for pervious pavement. We take into account hydrology and traffic volume when placing porous pavement on a site.

URBAN STREAM RESTORATION

Many of our urban streams have been piped underground and one of the main contributors to flooding in many urban areas. We analyze the feasibility of daylighting these streams and bringing back their natural beauty within the confines of a built environment.

Park Systems, Plazas

We consider parks jewels on a chain in an urban environment. Whether a quiet pocket park, a vibrant sports complex, or a path along a river, they are vital to the social and economic fabric of our communities.

URBAN PLANNING

Community engagement is the key to successful urban planning. We involve schools, residents, retailers and government officials early on in the design process; prioritizing focus areas based on the unifying desire to enhance the vitality of our urban environment.

Education

We feel education is vital to the success of a project. Stakeholders often have objectives and priorities that overlap and our goal is to bring those ideas together to meet the larger objective of a dynamic, resilient community.

When designing a raingarden, planting bed, sports facility, or a playground for a school, we engage the students in the scientific aspects of the design process, encouraging critical thinking and enhancing their view of the environment that surrounds them.
